Sgt. Sammy L. Davis

Sammy L. Davis was awarded the nation’s highest military honor for his bravery and skill during a ferocious Vietnam War firefight that killed about 30 of his comrades. It was a honor to meet and talk to him. He was a very humble man. If you notice, he doesn’t really talk about his own personal deeds, just what he and his fellow soldiers accomplished. Before we filmed I asked him to share his version of what happened and he responded in a very interesting way; he said, “Have you ever seen Forest Gump and what he did? I was the real life Forest Gump.” I took his response as a clever way to share what he did yet still try to downplay himself and his individual heroic acts in a humble manner. Think about it, there’s a lot of guys who might have said, “Have you seen Rambo? I was the real life Rambo.”

I Met R. Lee Ermey

Have you recently seen this commercial?

Well, if you have you probably know the star of the commercial R. Lee Ermey aka The Gunny. While I was blogging for a client at a trade show I ran into him and had to get a quick video to share with you guys. The Gunny is also famous for playing a drill sergeant in the movie, “Full Metal Jacket.” You can also find him doing voiceovers for movies such as Toy Story and many others.

When you’re in his presence, he definitely commands your respect. You don’t have to be around him long before realizing he has a strong passion for the US Military and firearms.

Flight Out

Flight Out

Originally uploaded by Mason Media

Flying out to a trade show yesterday. I’m blogging pics, videos, and more for a client’s blog and social media all this week. During the flight, my client spilled his water all over me (which almost doused the laptop I was holding, which would’ve have ended my blogging, but disaster was averted). The flight attendant brought a replacement drink for him, but this one had a lid and straw. LOL!

Adventures in Blogging

Next week I will be posting content from what was the 13th largest trade show in America last year. It’s the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show and Conference, aka S.H.O.T. Show, in Las Vegas, NV with over 50,000 in attendance.

One of Mason Media’s clients is a Law Enforcement/Military distributor and has contracted out to Mason Media to cover the trade show for their blog and social media. So now, Mason Media has broadcast level media access to over 1500 exhibitors over 5 days (Jan 17-21).

I’ve already lined up an appointment with the winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor,  Sgt. Sammy Davis who will be at the show. I will be chasing and hounding other guest celebrities and nationally known figures for special interviews to share on the blog here.

It’s fun traveling and covering an event like this because you really get to test and stretch all the capabilities of your blog, social media, and mobile tools. We did this type of coverage for this company at last year’s event and they received a surge in web traffic for the next six months as well as a surge in sales. Being able to bring real time updates and coverage via these communication methods creates huge value to your audience.

What kind of events in your own industry can use social media and blogging to inform  and add value to your audience?

LinkedIn Offers Year End Special

LinkedIn is currently offering a year end special for half the price on all Premium Accounts. Normally it’s $50 a month for a Premium Account but now you can sign up for only $25 a month. If you were considering going with a Premium LinkedIn account before, now is the time to jump in! If you weren’t considering this or still don’t know much about LinikedIn, then just stay with the free version (I’ll be doing a post in the near future about the “Origin of LinkedIn” if you’re still not sure what it is).

For my needs, the free version suffices but you might feel differently. What say you?

This is what I got in my inbox this morning…

Here’s more info about the different options on LinkedIn:

The New Site is Launched!!!

Well, it’s finally here: MasonMediaToday.com! This site is dedicated to empowering people to take advantage of all the social media and blogging tools at their disposal.

MasonMediatoday.com is Launched!

MasonMediaToday.com will be a feeding ground for those who are hungry to maximize their online potential. MasonMediaToday.com will add time to your life by providing answers to potential internet obstacles that can take hours to problem-solve. MasonMediaToday.com will foster a community of entrepreneuers that share, interact with, and support each person’s endeavors.
At the time I’m writing this, the site is a mere shadow of what it will become. I’ve currently posted a handful of ‘quick tip’ articles along with some information regarding Mason Media. From this point on though, this site will be posting a minimum of 3-5 new articles every week. These articles will equip, inform, and notify you with the latest news, tips, and strategies for social media and blogging.
I encourage you to sign-up for our weekly newsletter and/or subscribe to our RSS feed so you can stay connected, engaged, and relevant in the new world of social networking. Here are a few of the themes/topics I will be posting on for the next 7-10 days beginning tomorrow:

*Negative Social Proof
*Getting More Facebook Fans
*Organizing Business Pages & Personal Pages
*Adding Video To Your LinkedIn Profile
*Gaining Connections on LinkedIn
*Getting Followers On Twitter
*Drip Feeding Your Twitter Account
*And More…

I hope you’ll not only be helped by the information posted here, but that you’ll contribute to the dialogue each day. As you can see, the website is brand new and the comments are…shall we say, “Spotless.” That’s a nice way of saying, there are none : ) Feel free to get the conversation running and let me know what you think about each article as they’re posted. I have a lot of information I want to share with you, but I also count on you, the reader, driving the direction and content too.

There is another need this site addresses and I am relieved to finally have it. For the past several months people have been harassing me (ok, that’s a bit dramatic) for pricing on social media and blogging services. Up until now, I have offered these services to a few in a very customized way. Let’s face it, Social Media is still in it’s infancy stage. If anyone tells they have it all figured out, you should turn 180 degrees and run fast. After 2 years of experimentation with my own business and even better implementation with my customers I have narrowed my focus on a few key strategies that get results. Trust me, these strategies will continually be refined and re-tooled as the landscape changes, but Mason Media can setup a solid foundation that will give you flexibility no matter which direction our culture moves. I have nailed down a handful of services and packages that I believe get you, the customer, the most bang for your buck. You can learn more on our “Services” page by clicking here.
Thanks for visiting the site in our initial launching stage! I look forward to bringing you more in the days to come…

Presenting to RE/MAX Real Estate Agents

Today, I got an opportunity to speak to RE/MAX Real Estate Agents in Ripon, CA. I was invited to present on the topic of Social Media. There were approximately 40 agents in attendance. They were a fun crowd to speak with and there were a lot of questions after I was finished. At the beginning of the session I asked for a show of hands of people who weren’t going to be getting on Facebook or Twitter no matter what I said and there was a good 5-10 hands that went up. Afterwards, several agents came up to me and told me that even though they didn’t feel like getting into Social Media, the presentation made them realize they need to reconsider.

Special thanks to David Darmstandler, co-founder of Data Path and Patrick J. Wallace, Broker and Vice President of Operations at RE/MAX for the opportunity to present.

Here are some photos from the iPhone:
